Hudson’s Bay Co. is permanently laying off 600 plus workers across Canada amidst ongoing store closures due to COVID-19 lockdowns.

Presently, almost  half of the company’s department stores continue to be temporarily closed, as per sources. The permanent layoffs comprise signify less than five per cent of the company’s total workforce. As per a toronto employment lawyer the workers, both part time and full time, have worked for the retailer for between 10 and 30 years, predominantly in sales and middle management at stores in the Toronto area, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. Non-essential retailers have been struck during the pandemic, with stores across the country closed or facing strict capacity restrictions.
