Govt reverses February directive; exporters breathe a sigh of relief amid turbulent global trade environment

In a welcome turnaround, the government has reintroduced RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) incentives for exports originating from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Export-Oriented Units (EOUs), with the updated policy coming into force on June 1, 2025.

This marks a reversal of the Commerce Ministry’s earlier decision to discontinue these benefits from February 6, 2025. The RoDTEP scheme is aimed at refunding various embedded taxes and levies on inputs, enabling Indian exports to be treated as zero-rated and helping maintain global price competitiveness.

“The RoDTEP support for goods manufactured under advance authorisations, SEZs, and EOUs will be applicable again from June 1, 2025,” stated the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in a fresh notification.

The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) praised the move, calling it a vital measure that would enhance the international standing of Indian exporters operating under these key trade facilitation schemes.
