New Delhi 17th November 2021: Council for leather Exports (CLE) organised the CLE National Export Excellence Award function in New Delhi on Nov. 17, 2021. Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister for Commerce & Industry and Textiles was chief guest of the award ceremony and Smt. Anupriya Patel was Guest of the honour.

The awards were presented under various product segments covered under the leather and footwear sector of the country to recognise the exceptional performance.

While addressing the awardees and the guest at the award function Shri Piyush Goyal, Commerce & Industry and Textile Minister stated that the nation is proud of the leather industry for its achievements and appreciated the industry for being in the forefront of innovation and design. Stating that the leather industry has the competitive and comparative advantages and the design capabilities, Shri Goyal urged the industry to aim higher export growths, engage with the world in a bigger way and become self-sufficient. Shri Goyal appreciated the export award winners for setting a role model for many exporters.

Smt. Anupriya Patel, Hon’ble Minister of State for Commerce and Industry stated that leather has been a priority sector for the Government and is a sector with a huge employment potential, with a large women workforce. The hon’ble minister stated that the leather industry has undergone significant transformation and is a leading exporter of value-added products. The hon’ble minister stated that the world is looking at India as a major manufacturing hub and we need to tap this huge potential and concentrate on innovation, product diversification and design development to achieve higher export growth.

 

National Export Excellence Awards: FY 2019-20

Every year CLE recognises the exceptional performance of the members in the export sector during the financial year.

Overall category:

Under this 3 awardees are felicitated based on their export performance during the financial year. M/s Feng Tay India, Tamil Nadu was conferred the first place while M/s Farida Group, Chennai and M/s K.H. Exports India (P) Ltd, Chennai were awarded at the 2nd & 3rd place respectively. For the FY 2020-21, the rank standing remained the same.

Export Turnover wise:

  • Rs. 300 Crore & Above,                                                  
  • Rs. 300 Crore to 200 Crore,
  • Rs. 200 Crore to 100 Crore and
  • Upto Rs. 100 Crore. ( 1crore=10million)

Conferred in 9 categories i.e. Finished leather, Leather Goods, Leather Garments, Leather Footwear, Non-Leather footwear, Industrial Leather Gloves, Saddlery & Harness, Footwear Components & Fashion/Sports Leather Gloves based on export value categories of

Women Entrepreneur of the Year CLE also recognises the exceptional contribution of Women entrepreneurs who have done exceptionally well during the year.

Brand promotion: Conferred to members who have taken special initiatives to create and promote International brand.

Shri Sanjay Leekha, Chairman CLE stating that the leather industry is committed to achieve the export target of USD 5.89 billion set by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry this year and looks to achieve the export of USD `10 billion (from USD 5.09 billion in 2019-20) and also domestic industry turnover of USD 20 billion (from present turnover of USD 12 billion) by 2025. Shri Leekha requested the support of the Government in achieving the envisaged targets by extending the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) to the leather sector and also considering a leather park scheme similar to the Textile Park Scheme to the leather sector. Shri Leekha also sought reinstatement of import duty exemption on wet blue, crust and finished leathers.

Shri RK Jalan, Vice-Chairman CLE thanked both the Hon’ble Ministers for their support and congratulated all award winners.
