Founded in 1971 in Brazil’s Sao Paolo, Melissa is an iconic global footwear brand with international presence in more than 96 countries, including India where it has recently set foot. Today, Melissa is one of the world’s largest footwear manufacturers, operating 12 factories and employing more than 20,000 employees. Each year, the brand churns out 176 million pairs of shoes and launches 400 new products. The brand claims that it has become a top performing brand under its parent company, Grendene.

The brand retails a wide selection of jelly shoes, bags, jewellery, and fragrances. It claims that it stands for individuality, comfort, great style and eco-friendliness. Its hallmark jelly shoes are made of 100% recyclable plastic.

From famed stilettos to recognized flats, Melissa has re-invented the much-loved jelly, bringing style and comfort to a whole new level. The brand boasts a panel of world-renowned designers including Vivienne Westwood, Zaha Hadid, the Campana Brothers, Judy Blame, Karim Rashid, Jean Paul Gaultier, J Maskrey and Alexandre Herchcovitch.

The Brazilian brand has recently opened its first flagship store at Delhi’s DLF Promenade Mall. In India, its exclusive franchisee is Enviably Me India Pvt Ltd. According to Ruchi Sally, Managing Director of Enviably Me India, “Melissa is unique and is more than just a shoe, it’s a fashion accessory that relates to lifestyle, giving a perfect blend of fashion with comfort. The Melissa collections tell the story that brings new dimensions of fashion; its products are unique in the Indian market and we are getting very good response.”

Ruchi claims that since the launch the response is ‘great every day and India is loving the brand’. I am so thankful to the Indian customers who have encouraged us and they are happy that now they can shop from Melissa in India rather than going overseas, she stresses. “With a tremendous response from first store in New Delhi at DLF Promenade, we have plans to open 2-3 stores in New Delhi followed by Mumbai, the fashion capital of the country. We are happy to announce we will be launching Melissa e-commerce soon.” In India, its target audience is women, toddles and girls. Its products are also available on major ecommerce platforms.

Mention may be made that international design brand Vivienne Westwood, a champion of fashion sustainability, has been collaborating with the brand since 2008. It also collaborates with Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Paul Gaultier and many more.
